Take the TIMS Tour

TIMS has results on hundreds of key tobacco control Indicators organized under priority Topics including indictors for tobacco use behaviour, cessation, prevention, protection, public opinion, and tobacco industry denormalization. Basic demographic information is also a topic (based on data from the Census of Canada).

Selecting any given Topic will allow you to view a list of indicators associated with that Topic. For example, the Tobacco Use Behaviour Topic will have indicators for current smoking and use of cigarillos and the Cessation Topic will have indicators for quit attempts and intentions to quit smoking.

Topic and Indicators

To select an indicator, check the little square box beside it. Some indicators are expandable (marked by a + sign), which gives you the option of selecting only the specific sub-indicators (or response categories) you want.

Once you select an Indicator, TIMS will display a default bar or line chart automatically for that Indicator.

TIMS will allow you to select multiple indicators from one or more Topics if they come from the same data source (for example, all from CTUMS). Indicators that do not meet this criterion will be greyed out and not selectable.

To learn how to obtain more detailed information about your selected indicator(s) by sub-populations (for example, current smoking by age, sex, or geographical location), proceed to the next section (Custom Menus).
